It takes courage to seek support and I’m pleased that you are taking the first step in finding a therapist.

It is important to find the right therapist that you connect with and can establish a trusting relationship. I believe that when people come to therapy, they allow themselves opportunities for self-exploration and growth. It is my goal to create a safe space, where you can make positive changes, so you can live a more fulfilling life.

I am a licensed professional counselor and a licensed school psychologist who has been in the field for over ten years. I specialize in Anxiety, Depression, Trauma, Self-esteem & Relationship Issues.

Jennifer Trefny

About Me

Jennifer Trefny has 10 years of experience as a practicing School Psychologist with experience in grade levels Pre-k – 12th. She has worked in schools in California, Colorado and New York. She is currently, licensed as a Professional counselor and school psychologist in Colorado. She has owned her private practice for 3 years.

She has a Master’s of Science in Education in School Psychology from Long Island University in New York in 2010. She furthered her education at Regis University Post Graduate Studies in their mental health counseling program. In addition, she took additional courses at Meridian University Doctorial program in Counseling Psychology. Prior to earning her Master’s she earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Human Services Management.

Philosophy

My approach is eclectic therapy that utilizes many different schools of thought to help heal the mind, body and spirit. It is my belief that the therapist must adapt to the client’s individual needs. I strive to provide my clients a safe environment that is empathic, nonjudgmental and secure.

Purpose

My goal is to connect to my clients by helping them feel, “understood”. I want all of my clients to realize that they are important and matter. I aim to help my clients reach their fullest potential by working through their emotional challenges that are interfering with their overall success and happiness.

Methods

Holistic therapy can take many different forms.
It often draws from other forms of therapy and is often tailored to the individual’s unique needs.

CBT

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is based on the understanding that our emotional experiences are directly related to our thoughts, beliefs, and actions

DBT

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based approach derived from CBT methods that focus on change and acceptance interventions.

ACT

The key objective of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is achieved through educating clients about the six core processes and supporting the development of new psychological skills, including mindfulness, cognitive defusion, and acceptance.

Somatic Therapy

Also known as somatic experiencing and somatic experiencing therapy, somatic therapy incorporates the mind, body, and spirit into therapeutic healing work. This therapy aims to help release how a physical body holds on to stress, tension, and trauma, rather than only resolving problems verbally.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness practices can include a wide variety of different exercises and activities. Generally, they are intended to help you learn to observe yourself and the world around you in an open, nonjudgmental way.

Psychodynamic

Psychodynamic therapy aims to help the client identify important pieces of the puzzle that makes them who they are and rearrange them in ways that allow the client to form a more functional and positive sense of self.

Nature Therapy

Nature therapy describes an approach to well-being that emphasizes meaningful exposure to nature, which research has associated with numerous benefits for physical and mental health.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does your initial session look like?
The initial session will be an initial intake to discuss the client’s history and goals for treatment. During this first session the client will have the opportunity to see how therapy will work, review policies, privacy and confidentiality, as well as determine whether or not they are comfortable with the therapist.

Do you accept insurance?
Yes, I currently accept Aetna, United Health Care and Cigna.

What are you private practice hours?
Monday, Tuesday and Thursday late afternoon to early evening.
Saturday morning 9-12Pm

Do you offer in person counseling?
I’m currently, only offering teletherapy.
